Tidbits from Tim

Tim Hackett - Owner, Long Beach Lodge Resort

October 2024

As we transition into November, the weather becomes very unpredictable—one day can bring a beautiful winter day, and the next can unleash a furious winter storm! These big storms actually form in the mid-Pacific, thousands of kilometers from our coast, and are not accompanied by wind; instead, they bring huge waves that threaten to wash us away as they arrive on our beach. Guests are always advised to stay off the beach during these events. These winter storms are magnificent and very different from a local weather system, which is always accompanied by heavy wind and rain.

I personally enjoy this season, when you can curl up beside a fire and watch the outdoor activity from the comfort of your room. I think Tofino must be one of the few places on Earth where guests are disappointed if their winter visit only includes nice weather! Our restaurant changes its fare to a wonderful winter menu, and new this year is our spa, which has become very popular with both guests and Tofino residents.

November is the perfect time to unwind before the holiday rush, so make sure to explore our Relax and Rejuvenate special, which includes a romantic 2-course gourmet dinner in our renowned Great Room. Alternatively, look into our Become a Friend, Feel Like Family offer and enjoy a 30% discount on your stay of 5 nights or more. On Thursday afternoons, Trevor, our General Manager, hosts a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception for our valued guests in the Great Room. It is always fun, so plan to join him!

We are honored to have been chosen by Condé Nast Readers' Choice as one of the Top Ten resorts in Canada! This is in addition to placing in the Top Fifteen resorts in Canada with TripAdvisor. These awards are significant accomplishments, considering there are 9,000 resorts and hotels in Canada. Interestingly, Condé Nast, in their accompanying awards article, stated that while a property may be beautiful and well-located, it is the friendly, welcoming staff that really resonates with guests. I thank our staff members, as I believe they are our greatest asset with their genuine, friendly, and helpful service.

Our family will gather at the Lodge in November, as we love the season, and we would love to welcome you too.

My very best wishes,

Tim

"Surf trip with the family"

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The rain forest cottages fit our family of 5 perfectly for the week and were great to spend some time in no matter what the weather. Having the hot tub was a nice plus after surfing. The staff was very helpful and happy to work around our dog (which was so nice we could bring him!) for cleaning etc. We would just make sure to take him out for a few hours so they could clean as we didn’t bring a kennel. The restaurant was great as usual. We had a wonderful dinner there. It was our anniversary and although they didn’t do what they had the year before (no comp drinks or desert which was different as we had travelled the year before here and it was lovely to be treated so well), the quality of the food was just as good and the view is hard to beat.

The hotel rooms & amenities are very excellent. Great access to the beach & stunning views from the beachfront rooms. The food served in the restaurant was always great with a good choice. My only criticism is that in a ground floor beachfront room the noise of rain coming down the chimney is very loud during the night, maybe covers need to be added to shield the opening a little.

The front desk staff were very warm and receptive when checking in and whenever we walked through the entry area. The Great Room is beautiful, warm and very relaxing. The October days were cool and sunny and we enjoyed sitting at the outdoor firepits in Adirondack chairs overlooking the surfers and beach-walking families. LBL never disappoints!
