Tidbits from Tim

Each year, millions of shorebirds travel along the Pacific Flyway, migrating from Central and South America to their breeding grounds in the high Arctic. Many of these birds stop to rest and feed here on Cox Bay Beach, including Sandpipers (my favorites), Plovers, and Whimbrels. Until recently, it was believed that these birds stayed for a couple of weeks before continuing their journey. However, it's now known that they pause for only a few days, meaning far more shorebirds pass through than previously thought. This incredible natural event remains a remarkable sight to witness, with some species still appearing resilient despite growing environmental pressures.

I'm also delighted to share that many of your four-legged family members joined us during our recent "Furry February", helping us raise funds for the CARE Network - a local organization supporting less fortunate dogs. The CARE Network plays a crucial role in our community, assisting 500 to 700 animals each year through its rescue service for wild animals and its support for dogs and cats. Its services include fostering and sheltering animals, rehoming pets, providing animal bylaw services, offering care support, operating a pet food bank, and ensuring access to affordable veterinary care.

As you may know, last winter we began an ambitious three-year project to refresh all our rooms and cottages. We're excited to announce that this year's work is now complete, just in time for our spring break guests. We hope you'll be pleased with the updates, and we would love to hear your feedback.

While refreshing our spaces has been a big focus, we're equally proud of the thoughtful features and amenities that make your stay even more enjoyable. This month, I'd like to highlight a few of them: Enjoy full food and beverage service in our award-winning Great Room, unwind in our beautiful Rainforest Spa, and take advantage of our complimentary laundry service. Our 24/7 front desk staff is always available, offering security and guest services at any hour. And, of course, our friendly and helpful team is here to ensure you have a memorable experience.

April is a wonderful time to visit Tofino, with warmer weather and longer days perfect for outdoor adventures. Whether you're drawn to surfing, beach walks, hiking, kayaking, golfing, or cycling, it's an ideal time to explore. We'd be thrilled to welcome you this April - whether it’s your first visit or your twentieth.

Best wishes,
Tim
