Tidbits from Tim

Tim Hackett - Owner, Long Beach Lodge Resort

November 2024

It is truly fascinating how we experience such distinct weather on the coast throughout the seasons, ranging from calm summer days with small seas to incredible winter storms. The lodge is the perfect place to witness a fierce winter storm. It is a sight to behold as massive waves crash against the shore, so close to the lodge that they almost seem to threaten to wash us away! Take the opportunity to enjoy these incredible events fireside, from the cozy comfort of your guest room or our Great Room.

The number of storms seems to vary each year, and this season we’ve already experienced four major storms, including one that may be the largest we’ve ever seen, highlighting the potential impact of climate change.

After a storm, it’s always fun to beachcomb—it's amazing what gets washed up!

Take a break before the holiday season, relax, and rejuvenate. Enjoy a therapeutic massage in our beautiful Rainforest Spa with one of our experienced RMTs, or unwind in our hot pool tucked in the woods. Our sauna awaits, and you can even have a game of pool with a cold beer and a hot dog! Our chef has designed a scrumptious winter menu, perfect for enjoying after Happy Hour in The Great Room.

I want to recognize our dedicated maintenance team, who work tirelessly during our annual closure to handle repairs and maintenance that can't be done while we have guests. Throughout the rest of the year, they are always hard at work keeping the resort running smoothly and assisting our valued guests when needed. We strive to keep the resort and property in top-notch condition, and we are currently in the process of redecorating our rooms and cottages.

We initially closed for the holiday season after COVID to give our employees a much-needed break following two very challenging years. During the pandemic, many of our staff, who were not local residents, were unable to travel to visit family and friends. So, the closure gave everyone a chance to rest and reconnect. Looking back, we've realized just how much we miss the excitement of the holiday season—the decorating, preparing special feasts, and all the wonderful fun! That’s why we’re excited to share that we’ll be reopening for the holidays next year, ready to celebrate with you in full festive spirit!

Best wishes,
Tim

"One of the best “experience” hotels we’ve stayed in"
2024-10-29
We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a 14 day road-trip from Ireland and all I can say is that it was absolutely amazing. The staff were all so welcoming, friendly and attentive. We stayed in room 313 which was on the top floor overlooking the beach with a balcony. Truth be told, the hotel was so good we didn’t venture far over the 3 days, instead opting to just “relax” at the hotel walking the beach or sitting outside at the gas fires taking in the ambience and the surfers catching the waves. The food and service in the restaurant was amazing, I would even go so far to say it was the best food we’ve had in a long time at a hotel! If having food at the hotel, make sure you book a table at the restaurant before 6pm and maybe even arrive a little early. They will not reserve the window seats, but to get the best view of the sunset over the pacific - trust me, it’s where you want to be sitting. Cocktails were also very good. If getting a snack during the day you can get it at the Surf Club which is a few steps from the main building. After dinner we just retired to the bedroom with the gas fires going, patio doors open and enjoying a bottle of wine while listening to the waves crash on the beach. We didn’t do breakfast at the hotel any of the mornings as we wanted something “light” opting instead for the delights from the cafe & bakery Tofitian just a few minutes up the road. As an “experience”, it was hands down one of the best hotels I’ve visited in Canada/US. The team should be very proud.
"Anniversary weekend."
2024-12-02
We went to the west coast to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary as we were married out there. It was a lovely weekend and the LBLR was a good choice to stay with our dogs. The room is comfortable and easily accessible on the ground level so we were not having to walk up and down stairs or take elevators with the dogs. The restaurant (we only ate breakfasts there) was good value for money and has great beach views. I think the upcoming closure for maintenance etc. will be good as the rooms and eating area is showing a bit of wear, but still a great spot to stay.
"Another great stay at LBL"

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful four-night stay in a Rainforest Cottage. The beaches were intoxicatingly serene and our stay was very relaxing. We enjoyed a wonderful meal in the great room, where the ambience and service was superb as always.
