The Beauty is Un-BEAR-able!

Step aboard the Blue Pearl. With Captain Josh at the helm, we slipped away from the docks, cruised past the float homes of Strawberry Island, past a rock overflowing with cormorants, past the bouys marking the way, and pushed through the teal waters of Clayoquot Sound towards the Tofino Inlet. We were on a mission to find bears but getting there, we saw so much more!

This splintered edge of the coast offers a complex and abundant ecosystem. Flora and fauna thrive in these wilds and you needn't go far to catch a glimpse of something spectacular. Before we even left the slip, bald eagles were soaring and calling from their perches overlooking the marina. "Home" takes the shape of tree tops and rocky nooks, pilings and underwater gardens, not just of concrete and lumber.

To truly experience this magical place, it's best guided by someone who knows it well. We are so fortunate to have an knowledgeable naturalist at the wheel for our marine tours. Every time we hit the water, it's a new view, full of unique moments.

Black bears skirted the shoreline with ease. Flipping huge boulders and feasting on intertidal snacks. They seemed unconcerned we were watching from a far, focused on the task at paw.

We learned that a group of jellyfish is referred to as a bloom. They danced delicately along the hull, just below the surface, like a bouquet of translucent calendulas.

There is immense beauty in the landscape. The contrasting colours and textures, the sound of silence and lapping waves, the smell of salt and fresh earth. The mystery of what's just beyond the forest edge is as intriguing as how the animals move and rely upon it.

Back at the wharf, you can't help but feel humbled yet connected to this West Coast. Nature isn't around us, we are deeply within it and what a magical thing to experience.

We have been staying at this resort since it opened and it never disappoints. Location is great, rooms are comfortable and the food is very good. The great room has an amazing view and is very relaxing.
"Fall Get Away to the Rainforest and Beach"

The front desk staff were very warm and receptive when checking in and whenever we walked through the entry area. The Great Room is beautiful, warm and very relaxing. The October days were cool and sunny and we enjoyed sitting at the outdoor firepits in Adirondack chairs overlooking the surfers and beach-walking families. LBL never disappoints!
"One of the best “experience” hotels we’ve stayed in"
2024-10-29
We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a 14 day road-trip from Ireland and all I can say is that it was absolutely amazing. The staff were all so welcoming, friendly and attentive. We stayed in room 313 which was on the top floor overlooking the beach with a balcony. Truth be told, the hotel was so good we didn’t venture far over the 3 days, instead opting to just “relax” at the hotel walking the beach or sitting outside at the gas fires taking in the ambience and the surfers catching the waves. The food and service in the restaurant was amazing, I would even go so far to say it was the best food we’ve had in a long time at a hotel! If having food at the hotel, make sure you book a table at the restaurant before 6pm and maybe even arrive a little early. They will not reserve the window seats, but to get the best view of the sunset over the pacific - trust me, it’s where you want to be sitting. Cocktails were also very good. If getting a snack during the day you can get it at the Surf Club which is a few steps from the main building. After dinner we just retired to the bedroom with the gas fires going, patio doors open and enjoying a bottle of wine while listening to the waves crash on the beach. We didn’t do breakfast at the hotel any of the mornings as we wanted something “light” opting instead for the delights from the cafe & bakery Tofitian just a few minutes up the road. As an “experience”, it was hands down one of the best hotels I’ve visited in Canada/US. The team should be very proud.
