Apes invade Tofino!
"War for the Planet of the Apes", the third installment in motion picture series, is being filmed around Tofino, UclueletIf, during an early morning rain forest hike around Tofino, you find yourself staring down the maw of an angry gorilla, do not fret. Chances are, the ape is part of the cast of the latest installment in the popular “Planet of the Apes” franchise being filmed around Tofino.
“Well we know that this film is here, and that they’re filming out at Pacific Rim National Park Reserve,” Tofino Mayor Josie Osborne told CTV Vancouver Island. “People are excited, they’re interested. It’s neat to see the production and all of the people.”

Most fans of the Planet of the Apes series will agree that Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is an ideal locale to continue the big-budget series. The last we checked in on the apes, they were laying down roots in the red wood forests in and around the San Francisco and California’s Bay Area. The big trees, dense green foliage and rugged terrain is very similar to that found around Tofino.
Locals and tourists have noticed the increased activity around Tofino and Ucluelet: horses and all-terrain vehicles have been seen cruising the sands of Long Beach. However, as of the second week of October, film headliners Andy Serkis and Woody Harrelson had not yet been spotted.
Many of Tofino tourist related business owners are hoping this Apes sequel will help bolster the region’s international profile. New Zealand experienced a huge bump in profile and tourism and tours related to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. People travel from all over the world to see the jagged-spine mountains, forests and rivers so brilliantly featured in that hugely-popular series.
