Around Clayoquot Sound in 100 Million Years

Tofino is located on a remarkable piece of land.

Tofino sits on an active plate margin, and that tectonic setting influences everything about where (and how) we live today, including why we even have something to stand on, why we in BC are graced with such a scenic and mountainous landscape, why there are deposits of copper and other metals nearby (for example on Catface Mountain and in Strathcona Park) and why we are expecting what may prove to be the biggest earthquake humankind has ever recorded.

On November 20, Dr. Jacqueline Windh will present a whirlwind geological tour that will condense 100 million years of earth history into an hour.

Dr. Windh, a geologist, photographer and writer, will illustrate her presentation with photos of the geology from Tofino and surrounding areas - outcrops and locations that you can visit yourself - and will bring specimens to a hands-on geological experience.

The presentation will be held in the Ecolodge Classroom at Tofino Botanical Gardens starting at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $5. Contact the Raincoast Education Society for more information.

"Long Beach Getaway"

My wife and I stayed at the resort last November and it was so much fun that we wanted to go back in October this year. The room was great and the service was just the best one could imagine. We will go back next year again for sure, it is that good, highly recommend this resort. "One of the best “experience” hotels we’ve stayed in"

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a 14 day road-trip from Ireland and all I can say is that it was absolutely amazing. The staff were all so welcoming, friendly and attentive. We stayed in room 313 which was on the top floor overlooking the beach with a balcony. Truth be told, the hotel was so good we didn’t venture far over the 3 days, instead opting to just “relax” at the hotel walking the beach or sitting outside at the gas fires taking in the ambience and the surfers catching the waves. The food and service in the restaurant was amazing, I would even go so far to say it was the best food we’ve had in a long time at a hotel! If having food at the hotel, make sure you book a table at the restaurant before 6pm and maybe even arrive a little early. They will not reserve the window seats, but to get the best view of the sunset over the pacific - trust me, it’s where you want to be sitting. Cocktails were also very good. If getting a snack during the day you can get it at the Surf Club which is a few steps from the main building. After dinner we just retired to the bedroom with the gas fires going, patio doors open and enjoying a bottle of wine while listening to the waves crash on the beach. We didn’t do breakfast at the hotel any of the mornings as we wanted something “light” opting instead for the delights from the cafe & bakery Tofitian just a few minutes up the road. As an “experience”, it was hands down one of the best hotels I’ve visited in Canada/US. The team should be very proud. "Epic Trip"

My wife and I stayed at Long Beach Lodge during our stay in Tofino and the location, staff, and amenities were outstanding. The lodge is located on Cox Bay which has some of the best surf in the area and the food at the lodge and in Tofino was awesome. It was an epic trip to celebrate a milestone birthday, and I would highly recommend Long Beach Lodge as a place to stay.
