For 19 years, close to 40 species of birds have returned to attend the annual Tofino Shorebird Festival (birdwatchers are also welcome to attend)

April 4, 2016, Tofino, BC – Joining thousands of migrating and local shorebirds along the west coast of British Columbia for the 19th annual Tofino Shorebird Festival, members of the Raincoast Education Society have partnered with Long Beach Lodge Resort and other tourism providers to present three days of activities for everyone from bird-watching novices to expert ‘twitchers.’

Fourteen events are scheduled over the three-day festival, including land and sea-based bird-watching expeditions, lectures, and introductory and intermediate bird-watching seminars – Birding 101: Get Your Beak Wet and Birding 201: Get Your Feet Wet. Long Beach Lodge Resort is the host venue for the festival’s Bird Photography Workshop with nature photographer Jess Findlay on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m and Shorebirds in Pacific Rim with Parks Canada’s Resource Management Officer Sarah Tyne on Sunday May 1 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The full schedule of events is available through the Raincoast Conservation Society: http://raincoasteducation.org/events/tofino-shorebird-festival. The timing for the Festival aligns with the annual migration of sandpipers, plovers, whimbrels, and other shorebirds that use the protected forests, long sandy beaches, and rocky shorelines as resting points during their journey from South and Central America to northern Arctic breeding grounds. This is one of the most beautiful places I have stayed.. the room was amazing, sitting on my balcony watching the waves and surfers.. just amazing… we spend the days visiting the beaches around the resort.. it’s in a perfect stop and located close to food and coffee shops.. "Another Great Stay!"

We've been taking winter breaks in Tofino/Ucluelet for almost 20 years and enjoy the lack of crowds and ability to beach walk & experience some awesome winter storms. Long Beach Lodge makes a great base as we take our 2 labs and book one of the a dog friendly rooms on the ground floor that have walk out to the beach and a great view. This year was no exception with no rain while we were there and 2 days of storm force winds that made for great breaking surf. The room was great as always, staff all excellent and we ate 2 nights in the restaurant enjoying great meals and good beer both nights. An added plus was a new bank of 8 Level2 EV chargers (CCS) by the entrance with complimentary charging for guests, so keeping the car charged for drives to hiking locations and in prep for out return home was totally painless. Long Beach Lodge did not disappoint. Cider and a note was put in our room to celebrate our sister-in-laws stay away. All staff so friendly we honestly felt like they were friends. Sunset and ocean views so calming. Great food at on site restaurant. Easy access to local recreation. We were very looked after and left knowing we’d be back.
